Nassau Aims for Tourism Growth with New Strategies
Following a surge in passenger numbers at Lynden Pindling International Airport, which exceeded 4 million by the end of June, the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board is committed to maintaining and expanding the tourism momentum. CEO Joy Jibrilu shared insights on key strategies to ensure continued growth, including targeted marketing, enhanced airline partnerships, and initiatives focused on improving the visitor experience through cultural and environmental efforts.
“With nonstop service from 43 markets across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and South America, visiting our destination has never been easier,” Jibrilu stated. The organization’s growth strategy prioritizes attracting high-value travelers and broadening airline partnerships to increase route options.
A pivotal component of this strategy is the launch of a new brand campaign—the first in seven years—that emphasizes the unique identities of Nassau and Paradise Island. “This campaign will showcase the islands’ rich culture, featuring locally created music and authentic experiences that meet travelers’ desires for immersive encounters,” Jibrilu added.
Expanding international airlift is also a primary focus, particularly targeting new routes to Latin America. Jibrilu noted that the team is actively engaging airlines and travel agencies in the region, leveraging data and market insights to identify key cities with high travel potential and tailoring promotional strategies accordingly. “Nassau and Paradise Island offer a unique proposition for visitors from Latin America, especially for those wishing to combine their trip with a U.S. visit, as we provide U.S. pre-clearance facilities for departing passengers.”
Sustainability is another priority for the organization, with initiatives aimed at balancing tourism growth with environmental and cultural preservation. Jibrilu emphasized the commitment to safeguarding the Bahamas’ natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Looking ahead to Routes Americas 2025, Jibrilu sees the event as a vital opportunity to enhance Nassau’s connectivity and visibility in global markets. “Hosting Routes Americas 2025 will allow us to showcase what makes Nassau and Paradise Island special and strengthen our relationships with airlines and industry stakeholders,” she concluded, expressing eagerness to position the destination as a must-visit location.
