Stay in a Boeing 737: Unique Aviation-Themed Hotels
As airlines strive to attract premium travelers, luxurious suites in first-class cabins have become increasingly popular. Yet, a rare twist on this trend is emerging: hotel suites featuring actual airplanes. One standout example is the 737 Suite at the Corendon Amsterdam New-West, where guests can enjoy an extraordinary experience in a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, all within a 1,200-square-foot hotel suite.
The 737 Suite Experience
The 737 Suite offers guests a taste of life at 30,000 feet, albeit on a smaller scale. Located on the top floor of the hotel, the suite features the front section of the aircraft, complete with familiar sounds and visuals. Upon entering, guests are greeted by an intercom system, complete with the iconic ding-dong sound that frequent flyers know well.
Inside the aircraft, guests can relax in seats arranged in a three-three configuration across five rows. Every detail is attended to, including functional seat belts, tray tables, and overhead bins, ensuring a realistic flying experience without the stress of cramped quarters. The suite even includes two empty food and beverage trolleys in the front galley, along with a locked lavatory for authenticity.
Hakan Ilhan, the hotel manager, states, “It’s always the wow factor for guests when they enter the room. It’s a unique experience in and of itself.” Guests can even sit in the cockpit, which was originally used for pilot training. While the controls are no longer operational, guests can still interact with the cockpit by pressing buttons and pulling levers. The cockpit faces a large window, with a portion of the aircraft’s nose positioned outside to enhance the illusion of being airborne.
Soon, a movie screen will be added to replicate the in-flight entertainment experience of earlier decades, allowing guests to enjoy films inside the aircraft.
Modern Amenities in a Unique Setting
The suite is designed to provide both comfort and functionality. A recent renovation transformed the space from a corporate meeting room into a family-friendly environment, complete with a living area, full kitchen, and extra cots for guests. The aircraft divides the suite, with a spacious bedroom on one side and a living area on the other. Additionally, four separate toilets and a dedicated shower and tub add to the convenience.
Constructing the suite posed challenges, with the aircraft being craned into place during initial construction in 2015. Ilhan explains, “They built the structure, then they put the plane into place with a crane, then they built the room around it.” Obtaining permits from Amsterdam city officials was another hurdle, with original plans for a more dramatic presentation of the cockpit being revised.
Book Your Stay
In July 2022, Corendon Hotels & Resorts signed a franchise agreement with Marriott International, allowing the 737 Suite to be booked with Marriott Bonvoy points. Rates start at 294 euros ($317) for members and 299 euros ($323) for non-members, making it an extraordinary yet accessible experience.
Other Aviation-Themed Hotels
The 737 Suite is not alone in its unique offerings. The Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport property also features a full-size Boeing 747-400 for plane spotting. Nearby, the Jumbo Stay hotel at Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport allows guests to stay in a converted 747-212B aircraft. The TWA Hotel at New York’s JFK airport brings nostalgia with its futuristic terminal and a cocktail bar in a Lockheed Constellation.
Additionally, the upcoming Hotel Polaris at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs will offer flight simulator experiences in F-16 and 737 MAX aircraft, appealing to aviation enthusiasts seeking adventure. These unique hotels provide unforgettable experiences, blending comfort with the thrill of aviation.
