PSA Airlines, a regional subsidiary of American Airlines, is set to boost its fleet with the addition of fourteen new CRJ900NG jets. American Airlines, based in Dallas/Fort Worth, is acquiring these jets, which will be leased to PSA Airlines. This expansion is aligned with PSA’s strategic growth plans, strengthening its role within the American Eagle network. These new CRJ900NGs will be delivered and inducted gradually, beginning as early as October and continuing through November.

The newly acquired CRJ900s will undergo modifications to match PSA’s standard 76-seat dual-class configuration. Each aircraft will feature both economy and premium seating, a setup designed to meet American Eagle’s regional service requirements and provide passengers with a comfortable travel experience. The aircraft will also undergo maintenance checks as part of the induction process, ensuring they meet operational standards for efficiency and safety. Dion Flannery, PSA Airlines’ president and CEO, noted that the airline has achieved significant milestones in 2024, including fully restoring its workforce to pre-pandemic levels and returning all aircraft from long-term storage.

According to Flannery, the arrival of these CRJ900 jets marks a pivotal point in PSA Airlines’ expansion plans. He emphasized that PSA Airlines has successfully managed the re-induction of seven aircraft as part of a prior agreement, setting the stage for the fleet expansion now underway. “With the addition of these fourteen NextGen CRJ900s, we are ready to enter the next phase of growth,” said Flannery. This move is expected to further solidify PSA’s integral position within American Airlines’ regional flight operations, enhancing connectivity and strengthening the American Eagle brand across its network.

The updated fleet, bolstered by these CRJ900NGs, reflects PSA Airlines’ commitment to modernizing and expanding its service capacity. The CRJ900NG is known for its operational efficiency and reliability, making it an ideal fit for the high-frequency regional routes that PSA Airlines services. This aircraft addition will enable PSA to meet growing passenger demand and increase route flexibility across the American Eagle portfolio.

PSA Airlines’ current fleet comprises 141 aircraft, primarily CRJ700 and CRJ900 variants. This includes sixty-one CRJ700s, sixty-four CRJ900ERs, and sixteen CRJ900LRs. With an average fleet age of approximately 13.1 years, PSA has consistently worked to maintain and upgrade its aircraft to ensure optimal performance and passenger satisfaction. Notably, only four aircraft in PSA’s fleet are leased from entities other than American Airlines, including three CRJ700 Series 701ERs leased from Chorus Aviation and one from Dougherty & Company.

The addition of these new CRJ900NG jets is a critical step in PSA Airlines’ ongoing expansion. As a key partner within the American Eagle network, PSA plays an essential role in connecting smaller markets to major hubs. By investing in these NextGen CRJ900 aircraft, PSA Airlines is positioning itself to meet increased travel demand while delivering a high standard of service. The expanded fleet will support PSA’s operational growth and enhance American Airlines’ ability to offer reliable, high-quality regional flights across the United States.
