American Cruise Lines Expands Fleet with Four New Ships
American Cruise Lines has announced an exciting expansion of its fleet, ordering four additional ships from Chesapeake Shipbuilding. This latest order boosts the cruise line’s total pipeline to ten new vessels scheduled for delivery over the next three years, underscoring its commitment to the U.S. cruise market.
The company emphasizes that all new ships will operate within the U.S. cruise market, which it identifies as the fastest-growing segment of river cruising. With this expansion, American Cruise Lines will operate a total of 21 small ships across the United States in the upcoming year, catering to the increasing demand for high-quality cruise experiences.
“American’s commitment to U.S. river cruising is longstanding, but the rapid expansion of the company’s fleet in just the past several years is demonstrative of the growing interest and demand for world-class cruise experiences in the United States,” the company stated. This reflects a broader trend in the travel industry, as more travelers seek unique and immersive experiences closer to home.
Delivery of the newly ordered ships will commence this week with the American Legend, the newest Coastal Cat in American’s fleet. The American Legend has successfully passed its sea trials and is set to embark on its inaugural cruise on November 25. The remaining new builds will be delivered every few months over the next three years, enhancing the cruise line’s capacity and offerings.
The latest order comprises three riverboats and six coastal ships, which will enhance American Cruise Lines’ already impressive fleet. Currently available for booking are the American Patriot and American Pioneer for 2025, as well as the American Maverick and American Ranger for 2026. The new riverboat, American Encore, is also expected to launch in 2026.
American Cruise Lines proudly operates the only 100 percent U.S.-flagged fleet of riverboats and small ships in the world, highlighting its dedication to providing authentic American cruising experiences. More details about the four additional new builds for 2027 will be released soon, further exciting the cruise industry and potential travelers.
