The Caribbean island of Dominica has officially kicked off its 2024-25 cruise season in early November, with expectations that the season will break previous records for cruise arrivals. This growing destination is experiencing a surge in popularity, with several new ships making their debut stops on the island this winter, including the MV AIDAbella, MSC Explora II, and MV Sapphire Princess. The Celebrity Summit was the first ship to dock in Dominica for the season, marking the start of what promises to be a landmark year for the island.

Dominica is projected to host 235 cruise calls and welcome 375,000 cruise passengers during this season, a significant increase from last year’s 306,601 cruise visitors. This surge in arrivals is part of a broader trend of rapid growth in Dominica’s cruise tourism sector, with visitor numbers in 2023 showing a 62% increase compared to 2019. The uptick in cruise tourism has also had a positive impact on the island’s economy, generating $20.4 million in revenue, which has contributed to further improvements in infrastructure and accessibility for both travelers and residents.

In light of these developments, Marva Williams, CEO of the Discover Dominica Authority, expressed her excitement for the season ahead. “As we welcome the new cruise season, I am filled with excitement and pride for our beautiful island,” she said. “The remarkable growth in our tourism sector reflects our team and partners’ dedication and hard work. Each visitor gives us a chance to showcase Dominica’s rich culture, stunning scenery, and genuine hospitality. Together, we will create memorable experiences that inspire our guests to return and share their stories.”

Along with the influx of cruise visitors, Dominica has also made strides in improving the ease of travel for all visitors. Recently, the island launched a new online entry form for air travelers, streamlining the entry process and enhancing security. This free and user-friendly system ensures that travelers can move through customs and immigration quickly and efficiently, a step that is becoming increasingly popular among Caribbean governments as a way to simplify travel.

With these continued improvements in both infrastructure and services, Dominica is positioning itself as a must-visit destination for cruise passengers. Its lush landscapes, rich culture, and welcoming atmosphere are expected to attract even more visitors in the future, solidifying its reputation as one of the Caribbean’s rising stars in the cruise tourism industry. As Dominica celebrates its ongoing success in the 2024-25 cruise season, the island looks forward to a bright future fueled by tourism and hospitality.
