Virgin Atlantic to Relaunch Flights to Cancun in 2025

Virgin Atlantic will return to the Mexican market in 2025 with the launch of nonstop flights to Cancun International Airport (CUN) from London Heathrow Airport (LHR). This marks the airline’s first service to Cancun since 2019. Starting on October 19, 2025, the airline will operate the route three times a week on a seasonal winter schedule.

The new service will be the only nonstop connection between London Heathrow and Cancun, providing passengers with a direct link to one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations. Currently, British Airways offers a winter seasonal service from London Gatwick to Cancun, but Virgin Atlantic’s service will be the only nonstop option from Heathrow.

Virgin Atlantic has partnered with SkyTeam member Aeromexico and codeshare partner LATAM to offer passengers seamless onward connections to several major cities in Latin America. These include Mexico City, Santiago, Buenos Aires, and Lima, providing a wide range of travel opportunities for those connecting through Cancun.

The airline will operate the route using an Airbus A350-1000, configured to accommodate 397 passengers. This aircraft, known for its efficiency and comfort, will provide the necessary capacity to meet the demand for both leisure and business travelers flying to the sunny Mexican coast.

Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Atlantic, commented on the new route, noting that it will offer customers “a new destination for some winter sun.” The service will not only provide direct access to Cancun’s stunning beaches but also serve as a gateway to further destinations across Latin America through Virgin Atlantic’s codeshare partnerships.

This return to Cancun is part of Virgin Atlantic’s broader strategy to expand its network and offer passengers more choices for long-haul travel. The airline’s focus on popular vacation spots like Cancun also reflects a growing demand for winter sun destinations, particularly as international travel continues to rebound.
