Duncan Aviation Unveils Nautical-Themed Gulfstream V
Duncan Aviation, a leading private jet service provider, has launched a stunningly customized interior refurbishment of a Gulfstream V, featuring a unique nautical twist inspired by seaplane designs. This bespoke renovation was completed at Duncan Aviation’s state-of-the-art maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility located at Provo Airport (PVU) in Utah, catering to an owner who highly values creativity and distinctive aesthetics.
Unique Nautical Design Elements
The newly refurbished Gulfstream V stands out with its exceptional design elements that merge luxury with maritime inspiration. The interior boasts two-tone leather seats with fabric inserts, port hole window surrounds, and vinyl-wrapped sidewalls, creating an elegant and inviting atmosphere. Additionally, carbon fiber table boxes and a stone-look finish throughout the aircraft enhance its sophisticated appeal, making it a true one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
Senior Lead Designer Molly Pfeiffer highlighted the meticulous craftsmanship involved in the project. “The seats resemble custom-tailored men’s suits with clean lines, pull details, and hidden seams,” Pfeiffer explained. “The larger-than-normal headrests add to the comfort and style, perfectly complementing the nautical theme.”
Inspiration from the Grumman G-111 Albatross
The design inspiration for the Gulfstream V’s interior draws from Duncan Aviation’s previous work on a Grumman G-111 Albatross. “The owner was searching for inspiration online and came across photos of the Albatross. He loved how the wood tones and green accents worked together,” Pfeiffer said. This admiration led to the incorporation of similar elements into the Gulfstream V, resulting in a harmonious blend of classic and modern design.
Collaboration with Designer Carlo Borromeo
Duncan Aviation collaborated with renowned designer Carlo Borromeo, owner of BorromeoDeSilva, to bring the owner’s vision to life. Borromeo, who previously designed the owner’s yacht, integrated nautical elements seamlessly into the aircraft’s interior. The windows were modified to resemble portholes, and Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) flooring in the entryway and lavatory was installed using 2.5-inch-wide planks that mimic the teak wood commonly found in yachts. Strips of powder-coated black aluminum were strategically placed between each row, enhancing the nautical aesthetic.
Exquisite Craftsmanship and Attention to Detail
Clay Witte, Duncan Aviation’s Interior Completions Team Leader, praised the final outcome: “The smooth walls with the porthole surrounds, complemented by nickel trim and gold screws, create a stunning look. This project is truly unique, and we are all very proud of the results.” The team also prioritized soundproofing, adding soundproofing blankets and thicker carpet pads to ensure a quiet and comfortable cabin environment. The conference table area received special attention, as it is a frequently used space for the owner to rest and work.
Enhanced Flight Deck and Advanced Technology
The refurbishment extended to the entire flight deck, where seats upholstered in dark green leather match the cabin’s aesthetic. The frames were painted to complement the light green leather, maintaining a cohesive look throughout the aircraft. Handmade, 100% silk carpets with a marbled effect add a touch of luxury, while the installation of a Starlink high-speed in-flight internet connectivity system ensures seamless connectivity for all passengers.
A Masterpiece Beyond Expectations
Molly Pfeiffer expressed her satisfaction with the project’s outcome: “It’s not your standard aircraft; it has so many unique details woven throughout the interior. The craftsmanship of our teams brought the design to life perfectly. The final product exceeded my expectations and is truly a masterpiece.”
