Norse Atlantic Airways Launches Stockholm to Bangkok Route

Long-haul low-cost carrier Norse Atlantic Airways is set to enhance its international network by launching a direct flight from Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport (ARN) to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) ahead of the winter 2025 schedule. Announced on November 22 by Swedish airport operator Swedavia, this new Boeing 787-8-operated route aims to strengthen connections between Sweden and Thailand’s key markets.

Starting October 29, 2025, Norse Atlantic will operate the Stockholm-Arlanda to Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi route twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Sundays, continuing until the end of the winter season. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft assigned to this route will accommodate 338 passengers, featuring both premium and economy class seating, ensuring a comfortable and budget-friendly travel option for passengers.

“This route will not only serve as an important connection to the Thai capital but also act as a crucial link in the supply chain,” Swedavia stated. The direct flight is expected to facilitate faster delivery times for cargo, particularly in technology sectors, thereby benefiting both passenger and freight services.

Jonas Abrahamsson, President and CEO of Swedavia, expressed confidence in the Swedish air travel market. “The introduction of a direct route from Stockholm Arlanda to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi by Norse Atlantic is a clear indication of the robust demand and growth potential in our region,” he said. “Our goal has always been to enhance connectivity, and this new route significantly contributes to that mission, offering more opportunities for business, leisure, and family travel.”

Norse Atlantic’s CEO and founder, Bjørn Tore Larsen, highlighted the competitive advantage of the new route. “This new route ensures travelers have a premium yet budget-friendly choice on one of the most in-demand long-haul routes,” Larsen remarked. The airline aims to attract both corporate and leisure travelers by providing affordable fares without compromising on the quality of service.

The launch of the Stockholm-Bangkok route comes at a strategic time for Norse Atlantic, which has been navigating liquidity challenges and seeking new investors. In August, the airline announced plans to streamline its fleet by focusing exclusively on Boeing 787-9 aircraft and increasing its emphasis on charter and ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) operations to boost profitability. The recent addition of two 787-9s in May has expanded the fleet to 12, while three leased 787-8s are being returned to optimize operational efficiency.

Despite facing lower summer fares across the industry that impacted its quarterly results, Norse Atlantic is shifting its business strategy to dedicate at least half of its winter capacity to ACMI and charter flights, with multi-year contracts currently under negotiation. Additionally, the airline is joining the Global Distribution System (GDS) to broaden its sales reach to corporate and leisure travel agents, aiming to increase bookings and enhance market presence.

The Stockholm to Bangkok route is part of Norse Atlantic’s broader plan to expand its long-haul services, offering travelers more direct and convenient options for international travel. By filling the gap left by United Airlines’ suspension of the same route in August 2024, Norse Atlantic is positioning itself as a reliable alternative for passengers seeking efficient and cost-effective travel between Europe and Southeast Asia.

With the rollout of this new route, Norse Atlantic Airways is poised to capture a significant share of the growing demand for direct flights between Stockholm and Bangkok. The airline’s commitment to expanding its network, coupled with strategic fleet management and enhanced service offerings, underscores its dedication to providing exceptional travel experiences for passengers worldwide.
