Royal Air Maroc Welcomes Tenth Boeing 787 Dreamliner
Royal Air Maroc, the national carrier of Morocco, is celebrating a significant milestone with the arrival of its tenth Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner touched down at Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) on November 24, 2024, greeted by the traditional Moroccan water salute, marking a proud moment for the airline.
This latest addition to Royal Air Maroc’s fleet is part of a strategic order placed in 2023, reflecting the airline’s ambitious growth plans. In July 2023, Royal Air Maroc announced its intention to expand its fleet from over 50 aircraft to 200 planes within the next 15 years. This expansion is a cornerstone of the airline’s development plan, which aligns with the program agreement signed with the Moroccan government earlier that year.
The delivery of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner signifies the beginning of Royal Air Maroc’s extensive fleet enhancement strategy. Currently, the airline operates a mix of Boeing 787-8s and 787-9s, and the addition of this tenth Dreamliner strengthens its long-haul capabilities. “This delivery marks the first step in implementing Royal Air Maroc’s development plan,” a spokesperson for the carrier stated, emphasizing the importance of this aircraft in expanding the airline’s international reach.
Royal Air Maroc’s commitment to enhancing its fleet is further demonstrated by the anticipated arrival of an eleventh Boeing Dreamliner by the end of the year. This additional aircraft is set to inaugurate new routes to São Paulo, Toronto, and Beijing, thereby broadening the airline’s global network. These new destinations are expected to cater to the growing demand for international travel and enhance connectivity between Morocco and key global cities.
Boeing confirmed Royal Air Maroc’s repeat order for the 787 Dreamliner in November 2023, following an initial, previously unlisted order. “The two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners will enable Royal Air Maroc to expand its long-haul network in response to the highly favorable market conditions in 2023,” Abdelhamid Addou, Chairman and CEO of Royal Air Maroc, remarked at the time. He also highlighted the airline’s plans to quadruple its fleet before 2037 through significant tenders and acquisitions.
Over the past decade, Royal Air Maroc has steadily increased its widebody aircraft count, integrating both 787-8s and 787-9s into its operations. These aircraft are renowned for their fuel efficiency, advanced technology, and passenger comfort, making them ideal for long-haul flights. The expansion of the Dreamliner fleet not only enhances the airline’s operational efficiency but also improves the travel experience for its passengers, offering greater comfort and reliability on international routes.
Royal Air Maroc’s fleet expansion plans are supported by robust market analysis and favorable conditions in the global aviation sector. The strategic acquisition of additional Dreamliners ensures that the airline can meet increasing passenger demand and capitalize on emerging travel trends. By investing in modern, efficient aircraft, Royal Air Maroc is well-equipped to deliver superior service and maintain its competitive edge in the international market.
