British Airways has announced the launch of its new Concorde-inspired first class suite, which will debut on Airbus A380 flights starting in 2026. Designed to reflect modern British luxury travel, the new suites aim to provide passengers with a “home away from home” experience, blending elegance with comfort and British craftsmanship.

The new first class suites, unveiled on November 25, 2024, are described as “game-changing” by British Airways. The airline envisions the suites offering a “modern luxury hotel feel” with “thoughtful British touches,” aiming to elevate the first-class experience to new heights.

The collaborative design process involved various British and Irish designers and manufacturers. Key contributors include Collins Aerospace RTX, which developed the “First seat” and has previously worked on British Airways’ Club Suite and short-haul aircraft seats. Other collaborators include Tangerine Design Consultancy from London, luxury leather specialists Muirhead from Glasgow, and Botany Weaving from Dublin.

Features of the New First Class Suite
The first class suite boasts several high-end features designed for ultimate comfort and privacy. The ultra-wide seat measures 36.5 inches, with a bed length of 79 inches, ensuring ample space for relaxation. Passengers will enjoy a 32-inch 4K TV screen, a multi-purpose ottoman, and a stowable table, along with adjustable mood lighting that can be set to various scenes such as ‘relax,’ ‘dine,’ or ‘cinema.’

The seat is positioned within a cocooned 60-inch curved wall for enhanced privacy, while still providing a spacious environment. With the push of a button, passengers can adjust the seat to their preferred comfort level. For those traveling together, the divider between center seats slides open to create a shared lounge space, with stowable tables allowing for “buddy dining” with a travel companion.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic Concorde, the suite’s design features smooth curves and subtle references to the supersonic aircraft. The fully rectangular bed, introduced following customer feedback, is designed to replicate the comfort of a home environment. Additional features include personal luggage space, where customers can wheel their bags directly into their suite, and window blinds that can be controlled via an internal control panel for all three windows per seat.

British Airways’ Vision for the Future
“We’re incredibly proud to launch the next era of First that pushes the boundaries of comfort, luxury, and modernity,” said Calum Laming, British Airways’ Chief Customer Officer. He added that the new first class product, combined with the airline’s world-class service and benefits like First Wing entry, access to exclusive lounges, and priority boarding, offers a truly extraordinary customer experience.

This new first class cabin is part of British Airways’ retrofit plans for its Airbus A380 fleet, with the updated aircraft expected to take to the skies in mid-2026. The new product will complement British Airways’ position as the only European carrier offering first class services on transatlantic flights from London to the United States.
