Emirates Unveils First Airbus A350, Expanding Global Reach
Emirates has officially introduced its first-ever Airbus A350-900, marking a major milestone for the airline. The aircraft was unveiled at an exclusive event in Dubai on November 27, 2024, attended by Emirates President Sir Tim Clark, VIP guests, dignitaries, and media representatives. This marks the beginning of a new era for the airline, as it expands its fleet and enhances its global network.
Emirates first ordered the Airbus A350 in 2019 at the Dubai Airshow, with a total of 65 aircraft, followed by an additional 15 jets in 2023. The airline’s new A350 features a three-class configuration for 312 passengers, including 32 next-generation business class lie-flat seats, 21 premium economy seats, and 259 economy class seats. While the initial 14 A350s will follow this seating layout, the final 50 will have only 298 seats to accommodate crew rest facilities and support ultra-long-haul routes.
“This aircraft sets the stage for Emirates to spread its wings farther by offering added range, efficiency, and flexibility to our network,” said His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, CEO of Emirates. He added that the introduction of the A350 would open new opportunities for the airline to expand into mid-sized airports, which are not suitable for larger aircraft like the A380.
The Emirates A350 will begin service with flights to Edinburgh Airport (EDI) on January 3, 2025, followed by other destinations such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kuwait, Bahrain, Colombo, Lyon, Muscat, and Bologna in the coming months.
Emirates A350 Cabin Features
The new Emirates A350 offers a range of upgraded cabin features to enhance passenger comfort. Economy class seats come with a luxurious light blue fabric, bronze-colored armrests, and a six-way adjustable headrest set to debut in early 2025. Passengers will also enjoy ample legroom and complimentary snacks on long-haul flights.
In business class, passengers will experience the luxury of 32 leather ‘S Lounge’ seats, inspired by the Mercedes S-Class, with wireless charging on side cocktail tables. The 1-2-1 seat configuration ensures privacy, offering lie-flat seats, a 4K ICE screen, multiple power outlets including wireless charging, a minibar, and excellent storage space. Passengers will also benefit from Emirates’ renowned food and beverage service.
Emirates has also introduced a premium economy section on the A350, featuring leather reclining seats with full leg and footrests, adjustable headrests, and in-seat charging points. Premium economy passengers will enjoy a 13.3-inch TV screen, large pillows and blankets, complimentary amenity kits, and exclusive sparkling wine, Chandon Vintage Brut 2017.
