British Airways Expands Summer 2025 Network with New Italian Routes
British Airways has announced the addition of three new Italian flight routes for the summer of 2025, further strengthening its network in Italy. The UK flag carrier will begin offering services to Rimini, Salerno, and Olbia from key London airports starting in May 2025.
From May 2025, British Airways will launch direct flights from London-Heathrow (LHR) to Rimini’s Federico Fellini International Airport (RMI), located on the Adriatic Coast. Additionally, a new route from London-Gatwick (LGW) to Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport (QSR) on the Amalfi Coast will also be introduced. Furthermore, a new service from London-City Airport (LCY) to Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) in Sardinia will complement existing flights from Heathrow.
These new routes will expand British Airways’ presence in Italy to 19 destinations, making Italy the airline’s largest European market and second only to the United States globally. “Italy continues to prove hugely popular with our customers, which is why it’s our biggest European destination, and second globally behind the US,” said Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer.
Chernoff noted that there was a 10% increase in searches for summer flights to Italy compared to 2023, highlighting the growing demand for travel to this iconic destination. “We’re pleased to be offering an even bigger choice of destinations next year. Rimini, Salerno, and Olbia are all coastal destinations, so we expect them to be particularly popular with our leisure customers seeking sun, sea, and of course Italy’s fantastic food,” he added.
Here are the details for the new routes:
- Rimini: Flights from London-Heathrow to Rimini will start on May 15, 2025. The service will operate three times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
- Salerno: British Airways’ Gatwick-based subsidiary, BA Euroflyer, will begin flying to Salerno on May 22, 2025. The service will also operate three times per week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
- Olbia: In addition to the existing Heathrow services, British Airways will offer a new weekly service from London-City to Olbia starting May 25, 2025. The frequency will increase to twice weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays from July 16, 2025, operated by BA Cityflyer.
These additions to British Airways’ summer 2025 schedule reflect the airline’s commitment to meeting increasing demand for Italian travel. With Italy continuing to be a favorite destination for leisure travelers, the new routes will offer more choices and flexibility for passengers seeking to experience the best of Italy’s beautiful coastal regions.
