SWISS Expands Airbus A350 Fleet with Five New Orders

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has announced an expansion of its Airbus A350-900 fleet, increasing its total order to 10 aircraft. The airline confirmed on December 5, 2024, that the additional five aircraft will be delivered between 2027 and the end of 2031, complementing the first five A350s expected to arrive from 2025.

This fleet expansion is part of a broader investment by the Lufthansa Group, which initially ordered 25 A350-900s in 2019. The decision underscores SWISS’ commitment to modernizing its long-haul fleet and enhancing sustainability and passenger comfort.

SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger highlighted the importance of the investment, stating, “Our new Airbus A350s will make our fleet even more modern. This is a major investment, and a vital one to ensure that we continue to meet our customers’ high expectations. With these advanced twinjets and their innovative cabins, we’re bringing our long-haul aircraft fleet up to a totally new level of modernity, sustainability, and inflight comfort for our guests.”

The new A350 aircraft will feature the airline’s cutting-edge ‘SWISS Senses’ cabin interior, designed to elevate the passenger experience with advanced comfort and modern amenities. While specific routes for the aircraft are yet to be finalized, the fleet will play a key role in replacing SWISS’ aging wide-body Airbus A340s.

This strategic move reflects SWISS’ focus on aligning its fleet with the latest advancements in aviation technology, supporting sustainability goals, and meeting evolving passenger demands.
