Malaysia Airlines Extends MJets Air Cargo Contract
Malaysia Airlines (MH, Kuala Lumpur International) has opted to extend its partnership with MJets Air (WW, Kuala Lumpur International), continuing to rely on the operator as its dedicated narrowbody freighter service provider for its cargo division, MASKargo. This decision follows a previous agreement that began in early 2024 and signals Malaysia Airlines’ ongoing commitment to tapping into MJets Air’s flexibility, reliability, and efficiency in serving its growing cargo network.
According to a December 2 Bursa Malaysia filing, the extension runs from January 1 through December 31, 2025. Within the next 60 days of issuing the letter of award, both parties will finalize the exact scope of services, flight schedules, and any other operational details. The value of the contract will be directly tied to the actual flights flown and the scheduled operations completed. Although the current agreement lacks an automatic renewal clause, the possibility of further extensions remains open to discussion if future circumstances warrant continuing the partnership.
This new deal builds on the initial arrangement, which commenced in May 2024 and was previously set to expire on October 31, 2024, before receiving a short-term extension. During that time, MJets Air has played an increasingly significant role in supporting MASKargo’s strategic efforts to expand capacity, streamline operations, and improve overall service quality. By leveraging MJets Air’s expertise, Malaysia Airlines can better serve existing customers while exploring new market opportunities, especially in regions where timely, reliable cargo transport is essential.
MJets Air, the aviation branch of listed company MMAG Holdings, offers integrated services that go beyond simple cargo flights. The company provides commercial cargo operations, ground handling solutions, oceanic transshipment facilities, and on-demand cargo depot services. These complementary capabilities allow MJets Air to effectively support Malaysia Airlines’ cargo needs, contributing to seamless and efficient logistics chains that connect key markets.
The ch-aviation fleets module shows that MJets Air, previously known as Kargo Xpress, currently operates five B737-800(BCF)s and maintains one B737-400(F), which is presently inactive. These converted freighter aircraft offer the flexibility and capacity required to meet growing demand from various sectors, including e-commerce, perishables, pharmaceuticals, and other time-sensitive shipments. With MJets Air’s fleet focused on meeting the evolving requirements of air cargo customers, Malaysia Airlines is well-positioned to keep pace with shifting market dynamics and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
The strategic partnership between Malaysia Airlines and MJets Air highlights the critical importance of collaboration in the highly competitive air cargo landscape. By extending their contract, both parties demonstrate confidence in the stability and value of their working relationship, further contributing to the development of a robust, efficient cargo network centered around Malaysia’s key aviation hub. With MJets Air continuing to serve as Malaysia Airlines’ narrowbody freighter operator, MASKargo can maintain a sharp competitive edge, secure its position in the region’s cargo market, and ensure smooth, reliable service for its customers well into 2025.
