Air Canada Launches First Direct Flights to Manila from Vancouver
Air Canada has announced its inaugural non-stop service from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL), marking the airline’s first entry into the Philippines. Scheduled to start in the spring of 2025, the airline will operate four weekly flights beginning on April 2, 2025, utilizing its Boeing 787 Dreamliner. This service aims to cater to the significant Filipino community in Canada and the growing tourism and business exchanges between the two countries.
The new route will enhance Air Canada’s extensive transpacific network, which already includes destinations across Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong SAR, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. The addition of Manila as the 12th route from Vancouver underscores the airline’s strategic expansion in the Asia-Pacific region, reflecting the increasing connectivity demands between North America and Southeast Asia.
Flights to Manila will be serviced by Air Canada’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner, an aircraft celebrated for its passenger comfort and fuel efficiency. The airline will offer three classes of service: the luxurious Signature Class with lie-flat seats, a Premium Economy Class offering more space and enhanced service, and the standard Economy Class. This configuration is designed to meet diverse passenger needs, from business travelers seeking comfort and productivity to tourists looking for affordable travel options.
This new direct service is especially significant considering the strong cultural and economic ties between Canada and the Philippines. According to the 2021 Canadian Census of Population, there are over 757,410 people of Filipino descent residing in Canada, making it one of the largest diaspora communities in the country. Furthermore, the Philippines Department of Tourism’s 2023 report highlighted Canada as the fifth-largest source of international tourists to the Philippines, with 50,555 arrivals recorded that year.
By connecting Vancouver directly with Manila, Air Canada not only facilitates easier travel for thousands of Filipinos living in Canada but also opens up new tourism and business opportunities. The direct flight is expected to enhance bilateral relations, boost tourism, and provide a convenient travel option for families and individuals traveling between the two nations.
In light of these developments, Air Canada’s introduction of flights to Manila represents a significant milestone in the airline’s international network strategy. It reflects the growing importance of the Asia-Pacific market and is poised to become a key route in facilitating greater exchange and understanding between Canada and the Philippines.
