Afcom Holdings, trading as Afcom and based in Chennai, has achieved a significant milestone by securing its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The certificate, valid for five years, was officially issued on December 12, 2024, marking Afcom’s formal entry into the aviation industry as a certified operator.

This development follows Afcom’s strategic acquisition of two Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Spectre Air Capital, confirmed by ch-aviation research. The airline now operates a Boeing 737-800BCF (VT-AFO, msn 28617) and a Boeing 737-800SF (VT-AFC, msn 30160), both stationed at Hyderabad International Airport. These acquisitions are secured on eight-year terms, bolstering Afcom’s capacity to meet growing cargo demands within the region.

Prior to obtaining its own freighter capacity, Afcom relied on partnerships with other operators to fulfill its cargo logistics needs. The airline utilized Boeing 737 Classic freighters from Asia Cargo Airlines in Jakarta Halim and additional aircraft sourced through Airmark. With the addition of its own Boeing 737-800 freighters, Afcom is poised to enhance its operational efficiency and expand its cargo services independently.

Afcom’s newly acquired freighters are set to primarily operate routes between India and Southeast Asian airports, addressing the increasing demand for reliable cargo transport in these regions. The airline’s focus on these strategic routes is expected to facilitate smoother and more efficient logistics operations, catering to businesses and industries reliant on timely cargo deliveries.

“Our promoters and senior management team have extensive experience in the cargo logistics and forwarding business, which positions us well to capitalize on future growth opportunities,” Afcom stated in its latest annual report. This expertise underscores Afcom’s readiness to navigate the competitive aviation market and leverage emerging opportunities in the cargo sector.

In addition to expanding its fleet, Afcom announced on December 18, 2024, that it has entered into an agreement with Taylor Logistics, its general service and sales agent. This partnership is designed to manage the extra capacity that will become available once the two Boeing 737-800 freighters commence operations. Taylor Logistics will play a crucial role in ensuring that Afcom’s expanded cargo capacity is effectively utilized, providing seamless service to customers and enhancing overall operational efficiency.

The collaboration with Taylor Logistics is a strategic move to optimize Afcom’s cargo operations, ensuring that the airline can meet the demands of its clients with increased capacity and enhanced service offerings. This agreement highlights Afcom’s commitment to delivering high-quality logistics solutions and underscores the airline’s dedication to supporting the growth of cargo transport in the region.

With its newly secured AOC and expanded fleet, Afcom is well-positioned to establish itself as a key player in the cargo aviation market. The airline’s focus on leveraging its expertise in cargo logistics, combined with strategic partnerships and fleet enhancements, sets the stage for sustained growth and success in the competitive aviation landscape.

As Afcom begins operations with its Boeing 737-800 freighters, the airline is expected to play a vital role in facilitating efficient cargo transport between India and Southeast Asia. This expansion not only enhances Afcom’s service capabilities but also contributes to the broader logistics and forwarding industry, supporting economic growth and connectivity across the region.

Overall, Afcom Holdings’ achievement in securing its Air Operator’s Certificate and expanding its fleet marks a significant advancement in the company’s journey. With a strong foundation and strategic initiatives in place, Afcom is set to deliver reliable and efficient cargo services, meeting the evolving needs of its customers and positioning itself for long-term success in the aviation sector.
