Club Med Advances in Sustainability and Expands Resort Offerings

Club Med is experiencing a remarkable phase of growth and transformation, underscored by significant advancements in sustainability and an expansion of its resort offerings. Henri Giscard d’Estaing, President of Club Med, expressed pride in the brand’s progress, highlighting a record-breaking business volume of $1.25 billion in the first half of the year—a nine percent increase from 2023. Notably, winter season bookings at the brand’s mountain resorts saw a 22 percent increase from the previous year, now accounting for 45 percent of the brand’s total business volume.

Under the “Happy to Care” initiative, Club Med is committed to achieving comprehensive sustainability. This includes a strategic goal to operate all European resorts on low-carbon energy by next year, with many resorts also aiming for BREEAM certification. By 2023, 86 percent of Club Med resorts had already obtained Green Globe certification, with a target to reach 100 percent by 2025. In its efforts to source sustainably, over 60 percent of its food comes from local suppliers, enhancing both the quality of its offerings and its community impact.

The brand’s commitment extends to environmental conservation, with initiatives such as protecting bees in Canada and safeguarding sea turtles and coral reefs in the Caribbean. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to enhance Club Med’s impact on sustainable tourism and give back to the localities they operate in.

On the development front, Club Med is not only focusing on elevating its existing portfolio but is also planning new resort openings in 2024 and beyond. This expansion aims to provide global customers with a premium all-inclusive holiday experience, encapsulating the spirit of ‘l’Esprit Libre.’

Recent renovations across several resorts underscore this commitment. Club Med Punta Cana has inaugurated the brand’s largest water park, enhancing family amenities with features like slides and a bubble park. Club Med Cancún introduced a sports and wellness island, offering activities like yoga and archery, alongside new children’s clubs and a water park. Furthermore, Club Med Gregolimano in Greece recently reopened following a $32 million renovation that not only expanded its accommodations but also integrated sustainability features like thermal solar panels. Similarly, Club Med Serre Chevalier in France emphasized local design and sustainability in its recent updates.

These developments reflect Club Med’s strategic priorities to blend luxury with responsibility, ensuring that their resorts not only offer exceptional experiences but also contribute positively to environmental conservation and local communities. As Club Med continues to grow, its focus on sustainable and responsible tourism is setting a standard in the hospitality industry, promising a better future for both guests and the planet.
