Etihad Launches New Abu Dhabi-Nairobi Route
Etihad Airways has officially inaugurated its new flight route between Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and Nairobi, Kenya, as part of its strategic expansion in 2024. This launch, which began on December 15, 2024, adds Nairobi to Etihad’s growing list of global destinations, now tallying ten new cities this year.
Operating out of Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport (AUH) to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), the new service runs four times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The route utilizes an Airbus A320, optimized for the medium-haul journey to connect these two prominent cities.
Arik De, Etihad Airways’ Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, emphasized the strategic importance of the new service. “The introduction of our Nairobi route is a response to the increasing demand for travel between the UAE and Kenya and aligns with the remarkable tourism growth both destinations are experiencing,” said De. He highlighted the route as a key development in facilitating economic and tourism synergies between Abu Dhabi and Nairobi.
This route debut coincides with a pivotal growth phase for Kenya’s tourism industry, which is expected to see visitor numbers reach three million in 2024. With future targets set at five million visitors, the timing of Etihad’s new service positions it as a crucial link in supporting Kenya’s tourism trajectory.
In addition to Nairobi, Etihad has launched flights to several other new destinations in 2024, including Antalya, Bali, Boston, Jaipur, Kozhikode, Mykonos, Nice, Qassim, and Thiruvananthapuram. These additions reflect Etihad’s commitment to broadening its network and enhancing its global connectivity.
Looking ahead to 2025, Etihad Airways plans to continue its expansion with the introduction of 13 additional routes. These include flights to Warsaw and Prague starting in June; Al Alamein and Atlanta in July; Taipei in September; and Medan, Phnom Penh, and Krabi in October. Later in the year, new services to Tunis, Chiang Mai, Hong Kong, Hanoi, and Algiers will commence in November.
The strategic expansion of Etihad Airways not only broadens its operational horizon but also enriches its portfolio of destination offerings, ensuring it remains competitive in the dynamic aviation market. As Etihad continues to expand, it reinforces its role as a key player in connecting diverse cultures and economies across the globe.
