Qatar Airways Seeks Approval for New Doha to Bogotá Route

Qatar Airways is moving to expand its global network by proposing a new flight route that will connect Doha (DOH) to Bogotá (BOG), Colombia, with continued service to Caracas (CCS), Venezuela. The airline recently submitted an application to Colombia’s aviation authority, Aerocivil, to launch a twice-weekly service, potentially setting the stage for enhanced connectivity between the Middle East and South America.

This strategic expansion would utilize either the Boeing 777-300ER or the Airbus A350-1000, aircraft known for their long-haul capabilities. The proposal also includes plans to utilize Fourth Freedom rights, allowing the airline to pick up passengers in Caracas for the return flight to Doha, thereby maximizing the route’s efficiency and appeal to travelers in both cities.

The planned route marks Qatar Airways’ latest effort to compete in the Latin American market, coming six months after Emirates, its Gulf competitor, inaugurated its own service to Bogotá. Emirates currently operates daily flights from Dubai (DXB) via Miami (MIA), also using the Boeing 777-300ER. This move by Qatar Airways not only aims to tap into the growing demand for air travel in the region but also to strengthen its network reach in competition with other global carriers.

Turkish Airlines is another competitor already serving these regions, with flights from Istanbul (IST) to Bogotá, which then proceed to Panama City (PTY), and a separate route that extends to Caracas from Havana (HAV).

Qatar Airways’ proposed service is expected to enhance the travel options available for passengers traveling between the Middle East and South America, offering direct connections and facilitating economic and tourism exchanges between the regions. The airline’s expansion into the Latin American market underscores its commitment to global growth and competitive positioning in key international markets.
