ClipperJet Retires Citation Mustangs, Expands Fleet with New Models

ClipperJet, based at Barcelona El Prat, has officially retired its last two Citation Mustang aircraft, marking the end of an era for the airline. The final Mustang, EC-LDK (msn 510-0152), was last active on November 29, 2024, flying between Barcelona El Prat and Dole. After completing its final flight, the 15.6-year-old aircraft was re-registered in the United States on December 9 as N5104, and is now owned by an aircraft trading firm. Configured to carry up to four passengers, EC-LDK had been part of ClipperJet’s fleet since 2016.

This move follows the earlier retirement of another Citation Mustang, EC-LZS (msn 510-0050), which was last operational under the ‘ORO’ code on September 27, 2024, on the same route as EC-LDK. EC-LZS was subsequently re-registered in the United States and exported to Brazil, where it now operates privately as PS-SMG.

The retirement of both Citation Mustangs reflects ClipperJet’s ongoing strategy to modernize its fleet. Currently, the company is operating two Citation Jet 4s, although only one of the units is listed under the Spanish register. ClipperJet had also previously operated a Citation S/II, which has been parked at Barcelona El Prat since October 21, 2024, and is not currently available for service.

ClipperJet has yet to issue a public comment regarding the changes in its fleet, but it is clear that the airline is focusing on expanding and diversifying its offerings. As the company retires its older aircraft, ClipperJet is likely to focus on newer, more efficient models to continue meeting the growing demand for private and executive air travel in Spain and beyond.

With the retirement of the Citation Mustangs, ClipperJet is poised to continue offering premium services to its clients. The shift away from the smaller Citation Mustangs to larger, more advanced aircraft aligns with the industry’s trend toward greater efficiency and passenger comfort in private aviation. The company’s ongoing fleet adjustments suggest a commitment to maintaining high-quality service while adapting to market needs.

As the Spanish aviation sector evolves, ClipperJet’s strategic updates to its fleet reflect a broader industry shift toward modern aircraft capable of providing enhanced comfort and performance for long-range flights. The continued operation of Citation Jet 4s indicates that ClipperJet will maintain its reputation for delivering superior air travel experiences to its clientele.
