Hyatt Acquires Bahia Principe to Expand Inclusive Collection
Hyatt Hotels Corporation has officially secured an agreement with Grupo Piñero to acquire the Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts brand, integrating 22 resorts into Hyatt’s expanding Inclusive Collection. This strategic, long-term, and asset-light joint venture significantly enhances Hyatt’s all-inclusive portfolio, adding approximately 12,000 rooms across 21 Bahia Principe properties located in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica, and Spain. Additionally, the renowned Cayo Levantado Resort will join the Inclusive Collection, further diversifying Hyatt’s offerings.
This acquisition marks a substantial increase for Hyatt, boosting the Inclusive Collection’s total number of rooms by 30 percent. All Bahia Principe properties will eventually become part of the World of Hyatt loyalty program, providing members with enhanced benefits and a wider array of destinations to choose from. This move underscores Hyatt’s commitment to expanding its global footprint in the all-inclusive market, catering to the growing demand for comprehensive vacation experiences.
Julio Pérez, CEO of Bahia Principe, will spearhead the joint venture, bringing his extensive expertise in the all-inclusive sector to the partnership. Encarna Piñero, Grupo Piñero’s current Global Chief Executive Officer, will take on the role of Chairman of the Board, ensuring seamless integration and strategic alignment between the two companies. Izet Mahalbasic, Vice President of Hotel Finance for Hyatt, will serve as Chief Financial Officer, overseeing the financial aspects of the expansion and ensuring sustainable growth.
Encarna Piñero expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “It is a great honor for Grupo Piñero to embark on this long-term alliance with Hyatt—a groundbreaking model for both companies that promises significant benefits and advancements for our respective strategies. We are confident that the combination of our decades of experience as leaders in the all-inclusive sector in the Caribbean and Hyatt’s extensive global all-inclusive platform and systems will drive success for our joint venture.”
With this acquisition, Hyatt now boasts over 140 all-inclusive resorts across ten distinct brands, solidifying its position as a leader in the global hospitality industry. The Inclusive Collection, known for its exceptional service and comprehensive amenities, will benefit from Hyatt’s robust global platform, innovative technology, and strong brand reputation. This synergy is expected to enhance guest experiences, drive higher occupancy rates, and increase overall revenue for both Hyatt and Grupo Piñero.
The addition of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts aligns with Hyatt’s strategic vision to offer diverse and luxurious all-inclusive options to travelers worldwide. Guests can look forward to experiencing Bahia Principe’s signature service and amenities, now backed by Hyatt’s renowned hospitality standards. This merger not only expands Hyatt’s portfolio but also reinforces its dedication to providing unparalleled vacation experiences that cater to a variety of preferences and budgets.
Furthermore, the integration of Bahia Principe into the World of Hyatt loyalty program offers members exclusive benefits, such as priority booking, special rates, and unique experiences at these newly acquired resorts. This move is expected to attract a broader customer base, enhancing member loyalty and driving repeat business.
Hyatt’s acquisition of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts is a testament to the company’s strategic approach to growth and its commitment to meeting the evolving needs of modern travelers. By expanding its Inclusive Collection, Hyatt is well-positioned to capture a larger share of the all-inclusive market, leveraging Grupo Piñero’s established presence and expertise in the Caribbean and beyond.
