Transavia Unveils Retro Airbus A321neo
Transavia, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Air France–KLM group, is marking a significant milestone by adding its first Airbus A321neo to its fleet, adorned in a special retro livery. Announced on January 7, 2025, this addition coincides with the airline’s 60th anniversary, set to be celebrated on October 21, 2025. The introduction of the retro Airbus A321neo represents a “special milestone” for Transavia, reflecting both pride in its past and a commitment to future growth and sustainability.
Marcel de Nooijer, CEO of Transavia, emphasized the symbolic importance of the new aircraft, stating, “The arrival of a new Airbus in retro livery is our way of looking back with pride on what has brought us and where we are now, while at the same time looking ahead to a quieter future thanks to our fleet renewal.” The retro design, created by Dutch designer Thijs Postma, features a distinctive green color scheme and a large black ‘T’ on the aircraft’s body and tail. On December 20, 2024, the airline group announced plans to replace older Boeing 737-700s and 737-800s with the more modern and fuel-efficient Airbus A320neo family aircraft. Transavia received its first Airbus aircraft in December 2023 and currently operates a fleet of 16 Airbus planes across the group, including seven A321neos with Transavia Holland and nine A320neos with Transavia France. The addition of the retro Airbus A321neo not only celebrates the airline’s 60-year legacy but also incorporates the latest Airbus interiors, ensuring a comfortable and modern travel experience for passengers. The aircraft will feature three cabin classes, providing seating for 264 passengers, and is designed to offer enhanced comfort and amenities in line with contemporary travel expectations.
The retro livery Airbus A321neo will enable Transavia to expand its international flight capacity, open new routes, and connect the Maldives to long-haul destinations. Specifically, the airline plans to launch nonstop flights between Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) and New York-JFK, with some initial reports suggesting Newark-EWR as an alternative gateway. This strategic expansion is driven by the ongoing military conflict affecting air travel to Israel, prompting a group of Israeli tech entrepreneurs to establish TechAir, a virtual carrier aimed at providing affordable and reliable transatlantic flights.
