Alaska Airlines is set to expand its service from Portland International Airport (PDX) with several new routes launching on May 15. As part of its ongoing strategy to bolster service at Oregon airports, the carrier will introduce a new nonstop route from Portland to Houston, along with additional flights to and from Eugene and Medford, Oregon.

The most notable addition is the daily nonstop route between Portland and Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). Operating on a Boeing 737, the new service marks IAH as Alaska’s largest unserved destination from Portland. As a hub for the Seattle-based carrier, Portland International Airport sees roughly 100 daily flights to 58 destinations. This new link further strengthens the connectivity between the Pacific Northwest and Texas, providing an important option for business and leisure travelers. Alaska Airlines will be competing directly with United Airlines on the PDX-IAH route, promising a competitive alternative for passengers looking to fly between these two major cities.

Houston becomes the third Texas city served by Alaska from Portland, joining flights to Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin. By expanding its Texas footprint, Alaska Airlines is making a significant play in one of the nation’s most dynamic travel markets. The introduction of the Houston route is expected to stimulate demand as more passengers seek convenient, nonstop travel options between the bustling cities of Portland and Houston.

In addition to the Houston service, Alaska Airlines is launching a two-times-daily route between Portland and Eugene. Covering a distance of approximately 125 miles, the Embraer 175 flights are perfectly positioned to serve those who need to commute or travel for leisure between these two key Oregon cities. One of the daily schedules includes an early-morning departure from Eugene at 5:30 a.m., paired with a 9:55 p.m. return flight. This timing is particularly attractive for business travelers or tourists who wish to enjoy a full day in Portland without the need to stay overnight, maximizing productivity and leisure in one convenient package.

Further enhancing its network, Alaska will also open daily service between Medford, Oregon, and San Diego, California. This route marks the 41st destination from San Diego International Airport in Southern California, underscoring the airline’s robust presence along the West Coast. By connecting Medford with a major Southern California hub, Alaska Airlines is offering travelers another efficient travel option, fostering more regional connectivity.

To complement the new service between Medford and San Diego, Alaska will increase the frequency of flights between Portland and Medford from once daily to four times daily. This substantial frequency boost is designed to meet increasing demand from both leisure and business passengers, providing greater scheduling flexibility and convenience. Enhanced flight frequency ensures that travelers have multiple daily options, making it easier to coordinate trips and maximize time both at home and at their destination.

With these strategic route additions and frequency enhancements, Alaska Airlines is reinforcing its commitment to providing a seamless and convenient travel experience for its customers. By addressing both long-haul destinations like Houston and regional connections within Oregon, the carrier is positioning itself as a strong competitor in the ever-evolving airline market.

Travelers now have more options than ever to explore new destinations with non-stop service from Portland International Airport.
