A Kansas woman, Barbara Dipoli, 53, tragically died of a heart attack onboard Air France flight AF334 traveling from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to Boston Logan International Airport on Tuesday.

Despite efforts from a doctor on board and the flight crew, who are trained for in-flight medical emergencies, Dipoli could not be revived.

Massachusetts State Police described the incident as “an unattended death” and confirmed detectives from the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit and the Crime Scene Services Section investigated after the plane’s landing.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Air France expressed its condolences to Dipoli’s family. “Air France regrets this sad event and expresses its sincere condolences,” the airline said, adding that its crew is equipped to respond to medical emergencies during flights.

This incident highlights the unpredictable nature of medical emergencies during air travel and the importance of onboard medical preparedness. Further updates on the case will depend on the medical examiner’s findings.
