Avianca Launches Seasonal SAL-ORD Route

Avianca, one of Latin America’s premier carriers, is set to open its 13th route between El Salvador and the United States with a new seasonal service to Chicago. Starting on June 3, 2025, the airline will operate non-stop flights from El Salvador International Airport (SAL) in San Salvador to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). This strategic addition will be run on a seasonal basis, with three flights per week, providing a vital new link between these key markets.
Using its modern Airbus A320, configured with 180 seats, Avianca will offer a total of 540 seats each week on the new route. The carrier anticipates high demand during the northern hemisphere summer—a period when leisure travel typically surges—as well as potential business interest from those seeking direct connectivity between Central America and Chicago. Notably, no other airline currently operates a direct service between San Salvador and Chicago, positioning Avianca to capture a significant share of this underserved market.
This new route further expands Avianca’s robust network of services between El Salvador and major U.S. cities. In recent years, Avianca has grown its presence in the United States with popular routes from SAL to Houston Intercontinental, New York John F. Kennedy, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington Dulles. The introduction of the Chicago service reinforces Avianca’s commitment to offering diverse and convenient travel options for both leisure and business passengers while strengthening its competitive edge in the U.S. market.
The launch of the SAL-ORD service is part of Avianca’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity and cater to evolving market demands. With a focus on operational efficiency and customer satisfaction, Avianca has continually invested in modernizing its fleet and expanding its route network. The use of the Airbus A320—a highly efficient narrowbody aircraft—ensures that the new service will be both cost-effective and comfortable, meeting the high expectations of today’s global traveler.
For passengers, the new Chicago service means enhanced travel flexibility and a more direct connection between Central America and one of the United States’ major aviation hubs. Chicago O’Hare International Airport is a critical gateway, providing extensive onward connections to both domestic and international destinations. This new service not only boosts Avianca’s network but also supports increased tourism and economic activity between El Salvador and the Chicago region.
Avianca’s decision to launch this seasonal route comes at a time when global travel trends are shifting. With leisure travel experiencing robust growth during the summer months, the airline is positioning itself to capitalize on emerging opportunities in a competitive market. By adding a non-stop flight to Chicago, Avianca is expected to further solidify its reputation as a reliable and customer-focused carrier in the region.
Avianca’s new seasonal service from San Salvador to Chicago, set to commence on June 3, 2025, represents a significant expansion of its transnational network. With a modern fleet, strategic route planning, and a clear focus on meeting high-demand travel needs, this new route is poised to offer both convenience and quality, ensuring that travelers enjoy a seamless and enjoyable flying experience between El Salvador and one of the United States’ most important cities.
