Etihad Boosts Atlanta Flights Amid High Demand
Etihad Airways is set to expand its new direct service between Abu Dhabi and Atlanta following overwhelming passenger interest and strong market demand. Initially scheduled to operate at a frequency of four flights per week from July 2, 2025, the popular route will be increased to a daily service beginning November 1, 2025. This move, made even before the service’s inaugural flight, underscores the airline’s confidence in the route’s commercial viability and its commitment to enhancing transatlantic connectivity.
The 7,620-mile route connects Zayed International Airport (AUH) in Abu Dhabi with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), the world’s busiest airport by passenger volume. As the UAE’s only non-stop connection to Atlanta—often referred to as the “Gate City” or “The Big Peach”—this service will offer passengers seamless travel between two major global hubs. The route is operated by Etihad’s five Airbus A350-1000 widebody aircraft, each featuring a two-class configuration that accommodates 44 business class and 327 economy seats, ensuring comfort and efficiency on long-haul flights.
“Since announcing our flights to Atlanta, we’ve seen great interest from guests, and that’s why we have decided to step up to daily flights on this already very popular route,” said Jurriaan Stelder, Senior Vice President of Network and Alliances at Etihad Airways. His statement reflects the airline’s proactive approach in responding to passenger demand and capturing market share in a competitive transatlantic corridor.
In addition to increased frequency, Etihad’s new Atlanta service offers significant passenger benefits. One key advantage is the exclusive use of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance facility at Zayed International Airport—the only one in the Middle East. By completing all US customs and immigration procedures before boarding in Abu Dhabi, passengers arrive in Atlanta as domestic travelers. This streamlined process not only saves time but also enhances the overall travel experience by reducing the hassle of international arrivals.
Etihad’s expansion into the Atlanta market is part of a broader, aggressive growth strategy for 2025. In recent months, the airline has already launched direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Nairobi, signed a codeshare deal with Air Astana, and unveiled plans for new services to ten additional destinations. These new routes, announced in November 2024, include cities such as Algiers, Chiang Mai, Hanoi, Hong Kong, Krabi, Medan, Phnom Penh, Taipei, and Tunis. Furthermore, on January 28, 2025, Etihad confirmed the addition of a third daily flight to Milan-Malpensa Airport (MXP), increasing capacity by nearly 115% year-on-year on that route.
With a current fleet of 104 aircraft and 98 more on order—including Airbus A321LRs, A350-1000s, Boeing 777-8s, 777-9s, 787-10s, and 787-9s—Etihad is well-positioned to expand its global network. This bold expansion not only reinforces Etihad’s presence in key international markets but also offers travelers more options for seamless connectivity between the UAE and major cities worldwide.
