Google Cloud is enhancing the driving experience with natural language conversations through an expanded partnership with Mercedes-Benz. This collaboration will bring AI-driven, voice-activated assistance to drivers via the MBUX Virtual Assistant, providing real-time information about nearby points of interest.

Built using Google’s Gemini on Vertex AI, the assistant will go live later this year. Drivers can ask for information about restaurants, attractions, and businesses from Google Maps’ database of 250 million locations worldwide. The system delivers up-to-date reviews, menus, and directions with near-real-time map updates.

The assistant will also remember previous conversations, allowing drivers to continue queries seamlessly later. “Mercedes-Benz is known for an exceptional driving experience, and this partnership introduces cutting-edge AI to make interactions more natural and helpful,” said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet.

Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to providing a superior digital experience. “Our partnership with Google Cloud enhances navigation with advanced location data and generative AI. Launching with the new CLA, drivers will access personalized, voice-activated information within seconds,” Källenius said.

The AI assistant marks a significant step in transforming how drivers interact with their vehicles, merging convenience with real-time, data-driven insights to simplify navigation and enrich the driving experience.
