Airbus Submits Tender for 84 Aircraft to Polish Airline LOT
On March 15th in Warsaw, Airbus entered a significant bid for a contract to supply 84 passenger planes to Poland’s national carrier, LOT. The announcement was made by Airbus Vice President Benoit de Saint-Exupery, as reported by the Polish news agency PAP. The bid includes proposals for two models of the A220 series, specifically the A220-100 and A220-300 aircraft, which are well-suited for regional routes.
Earlier in March 2024, the Polish Ministry of State Assets disclosed that LOT Polish Airlines was set to request proposals from major aircraft manufacturers like Airbus and Embraer for its upcoming fleet expansion. This move is aimed at enhancing the airline’s capacity for regional air travel.
According to Airbus’ de Saint-Exupery, LOT is expected to make a decision on the tender swiftly, potentially within a few months. This urgency underscores the importance of the new aircraft in improving LOT’s operational efficiency and service delivery on regional routes.
As of February 2025, LOT Polish Airlines operates a fleet consisting of 87 aircraft, with 13 on order. This includes a mix of both narrow-body and wide-body planes, which serve a variety of domestic and international routes across Europe, Asia, and North America. The fleet primarily comprises Boeing models, including the 737 and 787 variants, which form the backbone of their long-haul and short-haul operations. Additionally, LOT uses Embraer E175s and E195s for regional flights, emphasizing their comprehensive coverage and service versatility.
