Republic Airways CEO Bryan Bedford has emerged as US President Donald Trump’s leading candidate for the role of head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), according to sources. Bedford, who recently interviewed for the position, now stands as the frontrunner for a post that requires Senate approval. The move comes amid growing calls for robust leadership at the FAA, especially following recent aviation safety incidents.

Bedford’s nomination marks a significant milestone in his distinguished career in the airline industry. With over 30 years of experience, he joined Republic Airways in July 1999 and has since transformed the carrier. Under his leadership as President and CEO, Republic’s revenue skyrocketed from $85 million with a fleet of 36 turboprop aircraft to over $1.3 billion, operating nearly 200 E-Jet aircraft. However, NBAA officials have stressed that Rocheleau’s appointment is only temporary until the Senate confirms a permanent nominee.
