Denver International Airport Sets Record with 80M Passengers

Denver International Airport (DEN), the third-busiest airport in the U.S., achieved a remarkable milestone in 2024 by welcoming over 80 million passengers. This record-breaking achievement was bolstered by the expansion of the airport’s airline partnerships, now totaling 27 carriers.

A significant factor in DEN’s success was the addition of several new airline partners, including the launch of its longest-ever route to iGA Istanbul Airport with Turkish Airlines. Other notable new international services included Viva’s flights to Monterrey, Mexico, Aer Lingus’ inaugural Dublin service, and Breeze Airways’ new route to Providence. These new routes contributed to the airport’s growth, solidifying its position as a key hub in the U.S. aviation landscape.

Looking ahead to 2025, DEN will expand its reach even further, connecting to 225 destinations worldwide. A new partnership with Contour Airlines will bring daily services to Moab and Vernal, Utah. United Airlines will also increase its network from DEN, adding new routes to Rome Fiumicino Airport in Italy, Bert Mooney Airport in Montana, Trois-Rivières Airport in Canada, Redding Regional Airport in California, and Wilmington International Airport in North Carolina.

DEN credits its growth to strong collaboration with airlines, tailoring strategies to meet carrier-specific needs, and ensuring the profitability and sustainability of existing routes. The airport’s incentive program has played a crucial role in encouraging new route launches and frequency expansions, further strengthening its relationships with airline partners.

As the airport looks to the future, it is focusing on expanding its network in Asia, where it is currently only connected via Tokyo, while also exploring new services to South America. The continued expansion of its domestic network remains a priority as DEN seeks to further increase its global presence.

In recognition of its achievements, Laura Jackson, Vice President of Air Service Development at DEN, expressed her excitement about winning a Routes Award. “We were surprised and it’s so nice to be recognized by our peers and the airlines. To be awarded this was really exciting for our team,” she said. Reflecting on the success of the event, she added, “The event has been great, all the logistics have been seamless, and everyone has been so welcoming and friendly—it’s definitely one of my favorite Routes Americas.”
