Condor Expands Codeshare With Deutsche Bahn
German leisure airline Condor has announced a major expansion of its commercial partnership with national railway operator Deutsche Bahn (DB), promising enhanced travel convenience for passengers flying to Germany’s largest airport in Frankfurt am Main (FRA). The expanded codeshare agreement will enable travelers to book customized train connections seamlessly when reserving Condor’s long-haul flights. The new arrangement allows bookings to be made from 21 DB train stations, integrating rail and air travel under a single ticket and providing a streamlined journey from city centers to the airport.
Under the updated partnership, passengers enjoy a range of benefits that improve the overall travel experience. In addition to easier booking of combined rail and flight itineraries, travelers will receive free seat reservations on their selected trains. The agreement also offers optimized transfer times to ensure that connections are coordinated and stress-free, along with free rebooking options in the event of delays. For those traveling in Condor’s Business Class, the codeshare now provides access to DB Lounges, adding an extra layer of comfort and convenience to the travel process.
The broadened partnership covers major DB mainline railway stations in key German cities such as Aachen, Basel (Badischer Bahnhof), Berlin, Bremen, Dresden, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Freiburg, Hamburg, Hanover, Karlsruhe, Cologne, Leipzig, Mannheim, Munich, Münster, Nuremberg, Rostock, Siegburg/Bonn, Stuttgart, and Wolfsburg. In a special extension of the service, travelers flying to Dubai on Condor services departing from Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER) will also have access to Dresden Central Station as a connecting rail hub. This comprehensive network is designed to offer passengers a smooth and reliable transfer between air and rail modes, reducing the stress of multi-modal travel and cutting down on overall journey times.
Condor CEO Peter Gerber explained that expanding cooperation with Deutsche Bahn was a logical step to offer guests even more options when traveling to and from long-haul flights via Frankfurt. He noted that while the airline’s city flights already connect several hubs in Germany and across Europe with Frankfurt, the limited availability of airport slots means that travel to intercontinental flights can sometimes be challenging. The enhanced codeshare arrangement is expected to fill that gap, ensuring that passengers have a broader range of departure and arrival points without compromising on convenience.
Stefanie Berk, Head of Marketing & Sales at DB Fernverkehr, emphasized the environmental benefits of the collaboration, stating that traveling to the airport using climate-friendly rail transport is a significant contribution to sustainable mobility. She pointed out that DB long-distance services operate on 100 percent green electricity, and past experiences have shown that cooperation between aviation and rail leads to double-digit growth on railway networks. By networking their services, both Condor and Deutsche Bahn are leveraging their respective strengths to create a more attractive and efficient travel chain.
This expanded codeshare is part of a broader trend across Europe, where airlines have long partnered with national rail providers to offer combined travel options.
