United Adds Three Unique Asia-Pacific Routes
Each spring, United Airlines unveils new routes to unexpected and under-the-radar destinations, and this year is no exception. On Wednesday, the carrier announced three brand-new cities—destinations served by no other U.S. airline—and a second daily flight between San Francisco International Airport and Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The first new city has been buzzing in recent months thanks to the latest season of HBO’s hit series The White Lotus. The second destination is a vibrant cultural and emerging financial hub in Southeast Asia, while the third is celebrated for its abundant wildlife and superb Australian wines. With these additions, United now offers flights from the United States to 32 cities in the Asia-Pacific region—four times the number available from any other U.S. carrier. The new routes, scheduled to begin this fall, promise seamless one-stop connections from both San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Beginning December 11, 2025, United will launch three-times-weekly seasonal service from San Francisco to Adelaide, Australia, operated by the airline’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet. This move makes United the first U.S. carrier to offer nonstop flights to Adelaide, a city renowned as a gateway to celebrated wine regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. Visitors to Adelaide will have the opportunity to explore natural attractions like Kangaroo Island, where wild dolphins, echidnas, kangaroos, and sea lions roam freely. Accommodations range from luxury options like Eos by Skycity, which overlooks a scenic riverbank, to the Sofitel in the East End, providing breathtaking views of the Adelaide Hills.
Starting October 26, 2025, United will also commence daily service from Hong Kong International Airport to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, again using its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Although this fifth-freedom flight is not a nonstop service from the United States, it makes United the only American carrier to fly to Bangkok with convenient one-stop connections from San Francisco and Los Angeles. In Bangkok, travelers can immerse themselves in the city’s energetic atmosphere, sampling street food along bustling back alleys, exploring the vast Chatuchak Weekend Market, and wandering through the vibrant Yaowarat Chinatown. For those seeking refined accommodations, options include the lush, riverfront Capella Bangkok and the newly opened Aman Nai Lert.
United’s third new destination is Ho Chi Minh City, where the carrier will introduce daily flights from Hong Kong on October 26, 2025, also on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. With this service, United becomes the only U.S. airline to offer flights to Ho Chi Minh City with one-stop connections from both San Francisco and Los Angeles. Often referred to by its historic name, Saigon, the city is famed for its motorbike culture, delicious street food, and iconic landmarks such as Notre Dame Cathedral and the War Remnants Museum. High-end hotels like the Park Hyatt Saigon and The Reverie Saigon provide a luxurious base for exploring the vibrant metropolis.
