Carnival Cruise Line has embarked on a new chapter of innovation and luxury with the commencement of construction for its newest vessel, Carnival Festivale. This exciting milestone was marked on Tuesday at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, where crews ceremoniously cut the first piece of steel in a traditional steel-cutting ceremony. The event not only symbolizes the start of a new project but also celebrates Carnival’s commitment to delivering extraordinary experiences to its guests. Carnival Festivale is set to be the fourth addition to the revolutionary Excel class of ships and will serve as a flagship example of Carnival’s dedication to combining cutting-edge design with unforgettable onboard entertainment.

Designed to be powered by liquified natural gas, Carnival Festivale will offer a sustainable and efficient cruise experience while accommodating up to 6,400 guests. At 180,000 gross tons, the ship promises to bring an expansive range of features that cater to families, music enthusiasts, and culinary adventurers alike. Among the most anticipated aspects of the ship are its two music-themed zones located on Decks 6, 7, and 8. These areas will incorporate a mix of media and interactive experiences along with live outdoor music performances, creating an immersive environment that resonates with the vibrant spirit of Carnival. As Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, remarked, the sound of steel being cut for Carnival Festivale is “music to my ears” and sets the tone for the themed experiences that await onboard.

Another highlight of the new ship is the introduction of an innovative outdoor area known as Sunsation Point. Occupying the top three decks, this unique zone will feature Carnival Waterworks Ultra, a family-friendly water park designed to offer endless fun and excitement. Guests will be treated to six exhilarating water slides, two splash pads, and dedicated baby splash areas, ensuring that every family member, regardless of age, can partake in the adventure. Additionally, the outdoor zone will include an elevated adventure trail, a sports court, a ropes course, a miniature golf course, and themed arcade spaces, making it a comprehensive recreational hub that perfectly complements the ship’s overall design.

Carnival Festivale will also showcase several new dining concepts that reflect Carnival’s commitment to culinary excellence, alongside beloved favorites such as Guy’s Burger Joint, Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse, and Shaq’s Big Chicken. The ship is set to sail from Port Canaveral in tandem with its sister ship, Carnival Mardi Gras, continuing a tradition of offering world-class dining and entertainment experiences that have become synonymous with Carnival Cruise Line. As Duffy noted, the innovative features onboard Carnival Festivale—from the music-themed zones to the expansive water park—demonstrate Carnival’s ongoing effort to infuse each new ship with unique and engaging experiences that enhance the overall guest journey.

The construction of Carnival Festivale not only represents a significant investment in the future of cruise travel but also highlights Carnival’s strategic partnership with Meyer Werft. With a proven track record in building successful Excel class ships, Meyer Werft is poised to help Carnival Festivale become another benchmark in luxury cruising. As the project moves forward, Carnival Cruise Line is excited to build upon the success of its three sister ships, ensuring that every detail of Carnival Festivale is crafted to deliver exceptional value, entertainment, and comfort for guests around the world.
