Routes Europe 2025 Awards Spotlight Excellence

The Routes Europe 2025 Awards will celebrate outstanding achievements in airport and destination marketing as industry leaders gather to honor the best in the business. Thirteen airports, five destinations and five airlines have emerged as this year’s finalists, competing across six distinct categories that highlight excellence in both marketing and route development. Among these, the Destination Award recognises regions that actively support their airline partners, while the Airline Award celebrates carriers that demonstrate exceptional collaboration and innovation in expanding their networks.

In addition to these two prestigious honours, three separate categories have been created for airports based on annual passenger traffic – Under 5 Million, 5–20 Million and Over 20 Million. An overall winner will also be chosen from the category champions. Finalists in the Airport and Destination groups have been evaluated by a panel of airline judges, whereas the Airline category has been scored by an editorial panel. The winners will be revealed on April 9 at the Routes Europe 2025 event in Seville, Spain, a gathering that promises to set new benchmarks for the industry.

Among the Destination Award finalists, the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Tourism has recorded a milestone achievement by welcoming 4.04 million visitors in 2024, registering growth that surpasses both the previous year and pre-pandemic levels. This impressive performance has boosted tourism revenue and fuelled strong market growth in countries such as Poland, Finland, France, Germany and Italy. Their dedicated investment in promotional campaigns across 28 countries has further enhanced travel searches and strengthened the island’s appeal as a year-round destination.

The Jordan Tourism Board has also made significant strides by attracting over 1.32 million visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council nations, achieving a notable year-on-year increase. Strategic partnerships with Ryanair and Wizz Air, including charter flight agreements, are set to enhance connectivity and bring new European visitors to Amman through direct routes from key cities like Milan. In a similar vein, the Malta Tourism Authority has recorded a surge in inbound tourists and tourism revenue, while Turismo de Portugal has celebrated record-breaking visitor numbers and dynamic route expansion, introducing new airlines and routes for both summer and winter schedules.

Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency stands out with its strategic focus on air connectivity, having worked with major carriers to boost international air seat capacity significantly. On the airline side, carriers such as Aegean Airlines, EasyJet, Eurowings, Jet2.com and Volotea are being recognised for their exceptional growth and forward-thinking network strategies. Aegean Airlines has expanded its seat capacity and launched innovative new routes, while EasyJet continues to extend its network through a data-driven approach. Eurowings has introduced fresh services to strengthen its Middle Eastern connections, and Jet2.com has seen rapid expansion through increased route offerings and fleet growth. Volotea, meanwhile, is noted for its impressive growth and commitment to sustainability, aiming to serve millions more passengers while reducing its carbon emissions significantly.

These awards underscore the dynamic progress and collaborative spirit within Europe’s aviation and tourism sectors as the industry forges ahead into a promising future.
