United Airlines Unveils Polaris 2.0 Studio Suites on 787-9

United Airlines is rolling out a major upgrade to its long-haul cabins with the introduction of Polaris 2.0 Studio suites on incoming Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. Arriving in early 2026, the first flights from San Francisco International Airport to Singapore Changi and London Heathrow will showcase eight all-new, extra-wide “business class plus” suites, each featuring a sliding privacy door, companion ottoman, 27-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth audio and wireless charging. Passengers in these premium pods will also enjoy upgraded amenities such as Perricone MD skincare products, Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche and Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé Champagne, along with access to a dedicated Global Reception check-in area for top-tier elites.

Beyond the Studio suites, United is installing 56 standard Polaris cabins with newly added sliding doors and 19-inch touchscreens that are three inches larger than the current models. Center-section seats have been reengineered so that couples or friends can lower the divider to bed height, allowing adjacent headrests to nestle side by side—a feature not available on today’s Polaris fleet. Premium Plus, United’s premium-economy offering, will grow from 26 to 35 seats on each 787-9, with 16-inch screens and privacy dividers complete with built-in reading lights. Even travelers in the economy cabin will find larger, 13-inch displays, the biggest screens in any global economy class.

United has 30 Boeing 787-9s on order through 2027, each delivered without retrofitting existing aircraft. These fresh interiors will occupy nearly half of every Dreamliner, with 99 premium seats out of a total of 222. In addition to comfort upgrades, the Dreamliners will become the first widebodies in United’s fleet to offer free, ultra-fast Starlink connectivity over oceans, polar regions and underserved areas. That reliable global internet promises to transform in-flight productivity and entertainment for business travelers accustomed to spotty Wi-Fi.

The Polaris 2.0 overhaul arrives as premium passengers across all U.S. carriers are demanding more than just lie-flat seats and complimentary champagne. This summer, American Airlines will launch its new Flagship Suite with an adjustable chaise lounge, privacy doors and increased stowage on its 787-9s, while Delta is rolling out refreshed seat materials, wireless charging and ambient lighting on its Airbus A350 fleet. United’s decision to invest heavily in enhanced privacy, suite-style seating and high-speed internet positions Polaris 2.0 to compete directly with those rival offerings on high-yield international routes.

United CEO Scott Kirby has highlighted the need to deliver a differentiated experience as the airline navigates capacity cuts at its Newark Liberty hub caused by air traffic control constraints. By focusing on premium cabins and technology-driven amenities, United hopes to reinforce its commitment to long-haul travelers who prioritize comfort, connectivity and exclusivity. The arrival of Polaris Studio suites on the Seattle-based Dreamliner fleet marks a significant milestone in that strategy.

As United prepares to deploy its Polaris 2.0 cabins, travelers can look forward to elevated service from gate to gate: private check-in, lounge access, privacy-enhanced seating and reliable high-speed connectivity.
