Cathay Pacific Reopens The Bridge Lounge at HKG

Cathay Pacific has officially reopened The Bridge lounge at Hong Kong International Airport’s Terminal 1 following an extensive redesign and upgrade that reflects the airline’s renewed commitment to premium travel. First introduced in 2013 and shuttered during the pandemic in 2020, The Bridge was initially slated for permanent closure in 2021. A surge in demand for high-end travel prompted Cathay to reverse course and embark on a multi-year renovation of its flagship lounges in Hong Kong.
Located adjacent to Departure Gate 35, the reopened Bridge lounge blends thoughtful, human-centric design with familiar comforts in a space spanning several thousand square feet. The interiors evoke a residential ambiance, with warm material palettes, soft lighting and bespoke furniture arranged to encourage relaxation. Cathay’s General Manager of Customer Experience Design, Guillaume Vivet, explained that every detail—from the scent and background music to custom seating layouts—was chosen to make guests feel welcomed and cared for, creating a retreat-like atmosphere before departure.
Among the new features is a biometric check-in system, a first for Cathay lounges, allowing passengers to move seamlessly from entry to seating without a paper boarding pass. A traditional check-in desk remains available for those who prefer a face-to-face interaction. The iconic Noodle Bar stands ready to serve Cathay’s signature wonton noodles and dan dan noodles alongside rotating Chinese specialties such as biangbiang mian and braised beef shin with cauliflower. Guests can also sample vibrant salads, artisanal desserts and a selection of teas and beverages as part of the lounge’s enhanced dining program.
The Bridge’s reopening comes as Cathay prepares to renovate The Wing First lounge, which will close on May 23, 2025, and is due to reopen in 2026. The Wing Business Class lounge will follow, ensuring that premium travelers always have a dedicated space to relax. Cathay’s Business Class Deck will close on May 21 for its own transformation and will serve temporarily as a First Class lounge during The Wing’s refurbishment. These phased upgrades form part of a broader HK$100 billion (US$12.8 billion) investment into new aircraft, cabin products, lounges and digital innovations across Cathay’s global network.
Beyond Hong Kong, Cathay plans to launch new flagship lounges at Beijing Capital International Airport and, for the first time, at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. These outposts will mirror the design philosophy unveiled at The Bridge, combining local cultural touches with Cathay’s renowned hospitality standards. The airline’s long-term strategy places lounge excellence at the center of its value proposition, aiming to differentiate its premium cabins in an increasingly competitive market.
Since reopening, The Bridge has received praise from travelers for its spacious seating areas, private work nooks and abundance of power outlets. The lounge’s combination of privacy pods, communal tables and plush daybeds ensures that business travelers, families and leisure guests each find a spot tailored to their needs. Real-time flight displays and high-speed Wi-Fi complete the package, making it easy to stay connected or unwind before boarding.
