Albania is preparing to open its newest aviation gateway, Vlora International Airport, with commercial flights expected to begin in 2025. Located approximately 10 kilometers north of the coastal city of Vlorë in southwestern Albania, the airport is set to become a key player in the country’s growing aviation sector.

The project marks a significant step forward for Albania’s infrastructure and tourism development plans, particularly along the picturesque Albanian Riviera. Designed to handle increasing passenger traffic and support regional connectivity, the new airport will serve as an additional hub alongside Tirana International Airport and Kukës International Airport.

Air Albania, the country’s national carrier, is expected to be among the first airlines to launch scheduled flights from Vlora. The newly registered airline Air Kosova is also anticipated to play a role in boosting connectivity, with plans to operate both regional and international routes. Their participation reflects a broader strategy to expand Albania’s air transport network and provide travelers with more access to the country’s southern coast.

Vlora International Airport is expected to cater to a mix of leisure and diaspora traffic, particularly from European markets such as Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. The airport’s strategic location near popular seaside destinations and cultural landmarks positions it as a convenient entry point for tourists exploring southern Albania.

As construction nears completion, Albanian officials are optimistic that the new airport will stimulate economic growth, boost tourism, and enhance regional trade ties. The launch of operations at Vlora International Airport is seen as a pivotal moment in the country’s efforts to modernize its transportation infrastructure and elevate its profile in the Balkan aviation market.
