SkyAlps Debuts Milan Bergamo–Mostar Route
SkyAlps has introduced a twice-weekly scheduled service linking Milan Bergamo (BGY) and Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in what marks the first direct air connection between the two cities. Operating every Thursday and Sunday until October 12, the new route underscores SkyAlps’ commitment to expanding regional connectivity and promotes tourism, business travel, and cultural exchange between Northern Italy and the Balkans. By offering convenient flight times and competitive fares, the airline aims to capitalize on growing demand for direct international connections outside of major hub airports.
The inaugural flights commenced with strong local support, as Giacomo Cattaneo, director of commercial aviation at SACBO—the operator of Milan Bergamo Airport—emphasized the strategic importance of the link. He noted that the service not only opens a gateway to one of the Balkans’ most historically and culturally significant cities, but also reinforces Milan Bergamo’s role as Northern Italy’s leading airport for Southeast Europe connectivity. With Milan Bergamo handling over 14 million passengers annually, the addition of Mostar strengthens its network and provides travelers with more diverse travel options beyond traditional routes.
Mostar, renowned for its UNESCO-listed Old Bridge (Stari Most) and Ottoman-era architecture, stands to benefit significantly from direct access to Italy’s third-busiest airport. Tourism authorities in Herzegovina anticipate an increase in Italian visitors keen to explore the city’s winding cobblestone streets, Ottoman houses, and vibrant riverside cafes. Local businesses also expect a boost, as improved air connectivity typically correlates with higher visitor spending on accommodation, dining, and tours in both urban and rural areas of the region.
SkyAlps, the Italian regional carrier based in Bolzano, has steadily grown its route network since launch, focusing on underserved markets and seasonal leisure destinations.
