Flydubai Expands Europe Network With Four New Routes

Flydubai has revealed plans to significantly expand its European footprint with the launch of four new routes connecting Dubai to cities in Romania, Moldova, Latvia, and Lithuania. Beginning in September 2025, the airline will introduce direct flights to Chișinău and Iași, followed by Vilnius and Riga in December. The addition of these routes brings flydubai’s total network to more than 135 destinations in 58 countries, with its European presence growing to 35 cities across 20 countries. The move underscores flydubai’s strategy to serve underserved markets and bolster Dubai’s status as a global aviation hub.

Flights to Chișinău International Airport and Iași International Airport will begin on September 19, 2025, operating twice weekly from Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport. The airline will become the first UAE carrier to offer direct services from Dubai to Iași, Vilnius, and Riga, marking its debut in the Baltic region. Flights to Vilnius International Airport will launch on September 11, 2025, with three weekly departures, while Riga International Airport will be served three times a week starting December 12, 2025. All four routes will be codeshared with Emirates, providing passengers with seamless connections across both carriers’ global networks through Dubai.

Flydubai first launched service to Romania in 2012 with flights to Bucharest. The new additions mark a major step in broadening access to Eastern Europe and the Baltics. These cities are seen as important gateways to growing regional economies and cultural destinations. In its announcement, flydubai highlighted Chișinău’s green spaces, limestone architecture, and cultural heritage, describing Moldova’s capital as an ideal off-the-beaten-path destination. Iași, Romania’s second-largest city, is noted for its rich history and vibrant neighborhoods. Riga and Vilnius, capitals of Latvia and Lithuania respectively, are celebrated for their UNESCO World Heritage old towns and striking architecture, offering travelers opportunities to explore the cultural heart of the Baltics.

Flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith emphasized that this expansion aligns with the airline’s long-term commitment to opening underserved routes and driving economic and cultural links between the UAE and Europe. With over 75 percent of its routes categorized as underserved, flydubai’s network strategy is designed to create connectivity where demand is strong but direct services have historically been lacking. The airline’s Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations, Jeyhun Efendi, echoed this sentiment, pointing to Europe as a critical market for growth and customer engagement through enhanced travel options and smoother access to Dubai and beyond.

Flydubai currently operates a fleet of 88 Boeing aircraft, including 737-800s, 737 MAX 8s, and 737 MAX 9s. Its future growth will be supported by a substantial aircraft order book that includes 127 more 737 MAX jets and 30 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, which were added to the order list in 2023. This continued fleet expansion is key to meeting increasing demand across new and existing markets as the airline reinforces its role in global aviation.
