Finnair Flights Disrupted Again by Helsinki Strikes

Finnair passengers are facing ongoing travel disruptions as the Finnish Aviation Union continues industrial action at Helsinki Airport. The latest walkouts are scheduled for June 2 and June 4, 2025, following an earlier strike on May 30 that led to widespread cancellations. Finnair has already confirmed additional flight cancellations for June 2, and further delays are expected later in the week. In total, the airline estimates around 3,600 passengers will be affected by these latest actions.
The strikes have brought essential airport services to a halt, including baggage handling, cargo operations, catering, aircraft maintenance, and customer service. Finnair has warned that delays and cancellations will persist as a result. In an advisory to travelers, the airline urged passengers to pack vital items like medications in carry-on bags, as checked baggage delivery may be delayed. The airline also cautioned that service points at Helsinki Airport could experience heavy congestion during the strike period.
In addition to ground operations, the walkouts are having a significant impact on inflight services. Between June 2 and June 5, Finnair’s domestic and European flights will offer limited catering options. Economy Class passengers will receive only water and a cookie, while Business Class passengers will also be served coffee and tea, but no meals. Onboard sales have been suspended entirely for these flights. However, the airline confirmed that intercontinental services will continue with their usual meal offerings.
This latest round of disruption follows a series of strikes in May. A four-hour walkout earlier in the month disrupted travel for nearly 7,500 passengers and forced Finnair to cancel around 100 flights. A subsequent strike on May 16 also caused additional flight delays and service interruptions, highlighting the ongoing tension between airport workers and aviation authorities.
The industrial action comes at a challenging time for Finnair as it heads into the peak summer travel season. The repeated disruptions are placing added pressure on the airline’s operations and customer service infrastructure, potentially affecting traveler confidence and bookings. As negotiations between the union and airport authorities continue, there is no clear resolution in sight.
Finnair has said it will continue to update passengers via its website and mobile app with the latest flight information and travel advisories. Travelers are encouraged to check their flight status frequently and allow extra time at the airport. The airline is also offering flexible rebooking options for affected passengers.
