Alaska Airlines to Launch Seattle–Rome Flights in 2026

Alaska Airlines will launch its first-ever transatlantic route in May 2026, introducing nonstop service between Seattle and Rome. This new connection marks both Alaska’s debut in the European market and the first time in history that Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) will offer direct flights to the Italian capital. The service will connect SEA with Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino International Airport (FCO), opening new travel opportunities for leisure and business passengers.
CEO Ben Minicucci, whose parents emigrated from Italy, called the route a personally significant milestone. He noted that customer demand for a direct connection to Italy has remained strong for years, and the new route will offer a convenient and long-awaited link for travelers in the Pacific Northwest.
Flights will be operated on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, acquired through Alaska Air Group’s merger with Hawaiian Airlines in 2024. The airline expects to receive a single operating certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by fall 2025, enabling the Rome route to go live the following May.
Service will run four times weekly, with departures from Seattle on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and returns from Rome on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The schedule may be subject to change.
Rome becomes Alaska’s third international widebody destination from Seattle after Tokyo Narita and Seoul Incheon. Ivan Bassato of Aeroporti di Roma said the route will strengthen ties between Italy and the U.S. West Coast, enhancing connectivity across the Pacific region.
