Cruise Ship Waiter Saves Passengers as Glass Shatters on Deck

A cruise ship waiter is being praised as a hero after helping prevent injuries aboard Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas. The incident occurred on June 8 while the ship was sailing from Bayonne, New Jersey, to Port Canaveral, Florida.
According to reports, a glass panel above the pool deck suddenly cracked, sending shards of glass falling onto the deck chairs below. Waiter Nitin Kumar noticed the glass beginning to break and acted quickly to protect nearby passengers. Guests said Kumar sprinted to the pool area and warned those seated beneath the panel to move away just before the glass shattered.
Guests took to social media to praise Kumar’s fast response. “Thanks to the fast thinking of one of the best, Nitin, these seats were vacant when the safety glass gave way,” one passenger shared on Facebook. “You are truly an asset to Royal Caribbean and a hero to the many people you removed from harm’s way. Great job!”
The cause of the glass breakage remains unclear, but no injuries were reported thanks to Kumar’s quick action. The cruise line has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
Symphony of the Seas, one of the world’s largest cruise ships, continues its scheduled sailings as Royal Caribbean investigates the cause of the accident and ensures guest safety on future voyages.
