JSX Air Signs LOI for 15 ATRs, Plans Leasing Ahead of 2026

JSX Air has signed a letter of intent with ATR for the potential acquisition of 15 ATR -600 series turboprop aircraft, with purchase rights for 10 additional units. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026. To kick off regional turboprop operations sooner, the carrier will lease two ATR42-600s for entry into service by the end of 2025.
The identity of the lessors for the leased aircraft was not disclosed. The agreement allows for the selection of either the ATR42-600 or ATR72-600 variant, both configured with a maximum of 30 seats. This setup aligns with JSX’s current FAA Part 135 certificate, which restricts operations to aircraft with no more than 30 passenger seats.
If finalized, the order would make JSX Air the sole operator of ATR turboprops in the United States. Silver Airways previously operated the type but ceased operations on June 11, 2025.
The move marks a significant fleet diversification for JSX Air, which currently operates 15 Embraer E135s and 33 Embraer E145s, all configured with 30 seats to meet Part 135 regulations. The addition of turboprops will allow the carrier to access smaller markets and airports with shorter runways, further expanding its niche regional network.
The deal supports JSX Air’s mission of offering semi-private air travel with efficient, short-haul service while maintaining regulatory compliance and operational flexibility. It also marks a milestone for ATR’s re-entry into the U.S. market, following the recent exit of its last operator.
