Smartwings Adds Bilbao and Toulouse to Winter Routes

Smartwings, the largest airline in the Czech Republic, is continuing its rapid growth with a major expansion of its winter 2025 European network. Following the winding down of the Czech Airlines brand in 2024, which was owned by the Smartwings Group, the carrier has strengthened its presence in the region by focusing on scheduled routes to complement its strong charter operations.
Starting in late October 2025, Smartwings will launch two new routes from Prague: one to Bilbao, Spain, beginning October 24, and another to Toulouse, France, beginning October 25. These services will operate twice weekly, with Bilbao flights on Mondays and Fridays and Toulouse flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The additions are part of the airline’s broader strategy to optimize aircraft usage during the off-peak winter season, when demand for traditional holiday charters slows down.
The two new routes join an increasingly competitive list of European destinations being added to Smartwings’ network. For the 2025-2026 winter season, the airline has also announced scheduled services from Prague to Barcelona four times per week, Porto twice weekly, Rome four times weekly, Brussels with 12 weekly flights, and Bucharest with daily service. Additionally, flight frequencies to Paris will increase to three times daily, while Málaga will be served 12 times weekly.
Smartwings’ winter schedule includes direct flights from Prague to over 30 destinations. These include major cities and leisure hotspots such as Madrid, Paris, Dubai, Rome, Brussels, and Tel Aviv, as well as popular island getaways like Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Mallorca, Madeira, and the Azores. New cities like Valencia, Bilbao, and Toulouse underscore the airline’s continued focus on expanding its scheduled network across Europe.
Beyond scheduled services, Smartwings continues to operate a robust charter program for the winter season. Charter flights will depart from Prague to destinations such as Sal and Boa Vista in Cape Verde, Bahrain, Doha in Qatar, Salalah in Oman, Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE, Zanzibar, and Mombasa in Kenya. These routes support demand for winter sun destinations and further showcase the airline’s dual focus on both scheduled and leisure travel.
Smartwings, part of the broader Smartwings Group, also operates in Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary. With a fleet of 55 aircraft that includes Boeing 737 variants, Airbus A220s and A320s, and several business jets, the airline serves over 80 destinations. Its recent growth in scheduled services marks a shift in its strategy, offering greater network connectivity while continuing to serve charter markets.
With this expansion, Smartwings reinforces its role as a leading Central European carrier, adapting to seasonal market shifts and positioning itself for continued growth in 2025 and beyond.
