Israel and Iraq Reopen Airspace After Iran Ceasefire

Israel and Iraq reopened their airspace on June 24, 2025, following a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran. However, Iranian airspace remains restricted, with international flights allowed only with prior approval from the Iranian Civil Aviation Authority.

The reopening marks a partial return to normalcy after weeks of disruption. Israel had previously limited flights to rescue operations due to security concerns. El Al Israel Airlines announced it will expand beyond rescue flights and lift its cap of 50 passengers per departure. Initially, flights will be available only to preregistered passengers whose original bookings were canceled. General ticket sales are expected to resume for flights after July 22.

Israir Airlines has extended its suspension of scheduled flights until July 7 and will continue rescue flights only. Arkia Israeli Airlines has suspended all scheduled services until at least June 30. Regional carrier airHaifa resumed ticket sales on June 25 for its Haifa–Larnaca route and plans to restart full operations by July 1.

Iraqi Airways began a gradual resumption of its scheduled operations on June 25. However, all regular flight services to, from, and within Iran remain suspended as the country maintains tight control over its airspace.

The original closure of airspace across Israel, Iraq, and Iran occurred on June 13, following Israeli and U.S. airstrikes on Iran. Iran later responded by attacking Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on June 23, prompting Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE to fully close their airspace, while Saudi Arabia issued partial restrictions.
