Sabre Corporation has officially closed the $1.1 billion sale of its hospitality solutions business to asset management firm TPG. The transaction, completed on July 7, marks a major step in Sabre’s broader strategy to streamline operations and strengthen its financial position.

Sabre President and CEO Kurt Ekert called the deal a key milestone in the company’s transformation. “We are pleased with this transaction and the opportunity it provides to pay down debt, reduce net leverage, and optimize our portfolio. I am thankful to the Hospitality Solutions team and wish them continued success,” he said.

Now operating as a standalone entity under the name Hospitality Solutions, the unit will be managed by TPG Capital through its U.S. and European private equity platforms. Additionally, MCR, a hotel owner and operator, has made a strategic minority investment in the business.

Sabre plans to use the $960 million in net proceeds from the sale to improve its balance sheet and refocus on its core technology services for the airline and travel sectors. The hospitality division, which includes assets like SynXis and Techsembly, has grown significantly since Sabre entered the hotel tech space in 2005.

In recent years, the business expanded with the acquisition of guest engagement software provider Nuvola in 2022 and e-commerce platform Techsembly in 2023. Sabre also developed a central reservation system for Hyatt.

This sale follows Sabre’s divestiture of its corporate booking tool, GetThere, to Serko for $12 million in October 2023.
