Carnival’s Mardi Gras Makes Historic Call at Celebration Key

Carnival Cruise Line has marked a milestone as its first Excel-class ship, Mardi Gras, officially visited Celebration Key, the cruise line’s new private destination on Grand Bahama. The call took place on July 25, with Mardi Gras docking alongside Carnival Pride, bringing nearly 9,000 guests to the island in a single day.
Mardi Gras, one of Carnival’s largest and most innovative ships, arrived during a seven-day Eastern Caribbean voyage that departed Port Canaveral on July 19. Carnival Pride visited as part of a week-long Bahamas cruise that left Baltimore on July 20, highlighting Celebration Key’s appeal across itineraries from different homeports.
The new private destination is designed to enhance Carnival’s guest experience with beaches, recreational activities, dining, and cultural elements. Celebration Key represents a major investment in Carnival’s exclusive destination portfolio and is expected to become a highlight for the line’s future itineraries.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, praised the strong reception. “We’re immensely proud and grateful for the great reaction from our guests visiting Celebration Key throughout this first week. The world’s newest cruise destination is already a success, and welcoming 9,000 visitors in one day is a great testament to that,” she said.
As the first Excel-class ship to call at Celebration Key, Mardi Gras sets the stage for future visits by other vessels in the class, reinforcing Carnival’s strategy to expand and diversify guest experiences in the Caribbean.
