Archer Aviation has marked a key milestone in its certification program with the successful completion of a 55-mile piloted flight of its Midnight aircraft, the longest flight for the eVTOL to date. The test demonstrates the growing capability of the aircraft as Archer moves closer to launching commercial operations in the United States and the United Arab Emirates.

The flight, which took place in California, was observed by United Airlines Chief Financial Officer Mike Leskinen, who praised both the achievement and the quiet operation of the aircraft. United is one of Archer’s strategic partners, with plans to integrate the Midnight into its regional network as part of its broader sustainability goals.

The 55-mile mission showcased Midnight’s ability to operate efficiently across city-to-airport routes and other short-haul segments that form the backbone of Archer’s future urban air mobility plans. With the aircraft designed for four passengers and a pilot, it is positioned to provide quick, low-noise, zero-emission transport in congested urban areas.

Archer is advancing flight tests under FAA oversight as it works toward type certification. The company is also collaborating with regulators in the UAE, where it plans to debut international operations. Reaching this milestone adds momentum to Archer’s goal of launching its first commercial routes in 2025.

The Midnight’s performance underscores the potential of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft to transform regional travel, offering a sustainable, efficient, and scalable alternative to traditional ground and air transport solutions.
