Uzbekistan Airways Places Record Orders 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners

Uzbekistan Airways has announced the largest aircraft order in its history, confirming plans to acquire up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners to modernize its widebody fleet and expand international operations. The deal includes 14 firm orders for the 787-9, with options for eight additional aircraft, and is expected to support nearly 35,000 U.S. jobs across Boeing’s supply chain.
Republic of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev joined leaders from Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways to commemorate the order on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. In a related move, Boeing and the Uzbekistan Ministry of Transport signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to explore further opportunities to develop the country’s aviation ecosystem.
“The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family has proven to be the cornerstone of our long-haul operations,” said Uzbekistan Airways Chairman Shukhrat Khudaikulov. “With this new contract, we are further strengthening both our airline’s and our nation’s position as a leading aviation hub in Central Asia, while providing our passengers with greater global connectivity. This step reaffirms our ambitions and strategic commitment to sustainable growth.”
Uzbekistan Airways was the first 787 operator in Central Asia and currently uses its 787-8 aircraft to connect markets in Europe, Asia, and the U.S., including a direct flight to New York City. The airline also operates 8 Boeing 767-300ERs, with one aircraft operating for the Government of Uzbekistan, and two 767-300BDFs for cargo. The new 787-9s, with increased capacity and extended range, will enable the airline to expand its international network to additional U.S. cities and other long-haul destinations as global travel demand rises.
“We value our nearly 30-year partnership with Uzbekistan Airways and will continue to support their growth strategy as they further connect the region and world,” said Brad McMullen, Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing. “With its fuel efficiency and operational flexibility, the 787 Dreamliner will help Uzbekistan Airways expand into new markets, connecting more travelers to their rich culture.”
Recognized for its fuel efficiency, versatility, and passenger comfort, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner enables airlines like Uzbekistan Airways to open new routes and serve more destinations. Featuring advanced aerodynamics, composite materials, and innovative systems, the 787 reduces fuel use by up to 25% compared to the aircraft it replaces—delivering both economic and environmental benefits.
