Sports Illustrated Resorts to Launch Chicago Location in 2026

Sports Illustrated Resorts is expanding into Chicago, marking a major step for the Travel + Leisure Co.-backed brand aimed at sports fans and followers of the iconic magazine. The property, set to open in late 2026, will be converted from an existing hotel in The Loop along the Chicago River, just one block from Michigan Avenue. The hotel will remain operational during construction and, upon completion, will feature 250 upgraded guestrooms.
The renovation will blend history and modern design. The resort’s updated lobby will preserve the building’s grand staircase as a nod to its origins as a historic financial institution, while showcasing bold Sports Illustrated imagery and contemporary sports-inspired décor throughout.
Planned amenities include an exclusive owners’ lounge, a signature fitness center, and multiple food and beverage outlets, such as a street-level coffee shop, a full-service restaurant, and a lively sports bar designed to bring fans together.
“Chicago is where legends are made,” said Geoff Richards, Chief Operating Officer at Travel + Leisure Co. “This city breathes sports in a way few places can match, with a passion that runs through generations of fans.” He added that the new resort will combine the storytelling tradition of Sports Illustrated with Chicago’s “unmatched energy” to create a destination where championship spirit thrives year-round.
The Chicago property joins previously announced Sports Illustrated Resorts locations in Nashville, Tennessee, and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as the brand continues to grow its presence in major sports markets.
